Many playgrounds pose safety risks due to improper equipment installation, inadequate surfacing, and a lack regular inspections. While the Department of Employment and Labour oversees enforcement, property owners and institutions remain liable for ensuring compliance.
We understand that the complete prevention of incidents is likely impossible, however, these courses and inspections can go a long way to inform you about your duties and to teach you the knowledge and practical skills to try avoid and mitigate incidents (such as broken bones, concussions, entrapments, and fatalities) which are caused due to negligence in playground safety, which is especially why we recommend the Playsafe – PlayMaintain Inspect Course!
Hosted by Labour Quest in collaboration with Playsafe, these sessions are meticulously designed for stakeholders in the hospitality and educational sectors who are committed to ensuring their playgrounds are not only fun but also fundamentally safe.
All of the courses below are available to be presented on request of an employer, however, we require that the employer send a minimum of 5 delegates per class.

The Playsafe – Certified Play Area Audit
The 10 Point Audit covers all the crucial aspects, including an inspection to SANS 51176 stability assessment, entrapment probe and gauges check, hazard inspection, wear and tear/maintenance issues check, fall zone/falling spaces and fall heights check, meticulous examination of play equipment and materials, play safety surface evaluation and much more.
You can expect a comprehensive digital report that includes detailed photos, risk assessments, and recommendations for each identified issue. Additionally, Playsafe provides a Certificate of Inspection as proof of compliance with SANS 51176 accompanied by an audit-compliant label affixed to your playground.

- In-depth physical examination carried out by a proficient RPII Play Auditor.

The Playsafe – Playground Supervisor Course
Duration: ½ day course
Objective: Equip participants with the knowledge of the importance and responsibility of supervision.
Cost: R 950.00 per delegate.
The Playsafe – Playground Legal Liability Course
Duration: ½ day course
Objective: To ensure Playground owners, manufactures, and suppliers are aware of their compliance duties.
Cost: R 950.00 per delegate
The Playsafe – PlayMaintain Inspect Course
Duration: Intensive 2-day course
Certificate: Participants who successfully complete the course and pass the exams will receive a Playsafe -PlayMaintain Inspection CPS Certificate to SANS 51176
Objective: Equip participants with the knowledge and skills for basic playground safety and maintenance inspections.
The course covers 5 modules and will help you:
- Understand the importance of playground safety and role inspections.
- Gain a basic understanding of current playground standards.
- Develop practical skills in conducting playground inspection.
- Learn how to identify, risk assess, document findings and recommend necessary actions.
- Learn basic maintenance procedures.
- Prepare for the PlayMaintain Inspect Exam.
